Artist's CV:
Jesse Gelaznik is an artist whose visual work and music are a self taught exploration of the subconscious. His current work involves mixed media installations that merge various disciplines, (such as musical composition and sculpture) for a desired hypnotic effect. His most recent performance was an installation entitled A Guest in the Cavern. Jesse and his collaborators performed this piece for the Northside Town Hall Community and Cultural Center, Inc.’s 2013 Arts Happening series at raw space 94 Wythe in Williamsburg Brooklyn. It involved several musical works composed by Jesse along with his designs and execution of an 8' x 7' pyramid , which the installation was centered around.
After moving to Brooklyn in the summer of 2000 Jesse has been heavily involved in creative projects involving music, film and drawing. He has exhibited his visual art at such venues as DUMBO Arts Center, the Observatory, Chelsea Hotel and YES gallery. In 2011 an audio collaboration between Jesse Gelaznik and Daniel Garcia titled PWR&$$$ received a commission from the Sharjah Art Foundation for their Biennial X and was later displayed in November of 2012 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Jesse was also a featured guest on Todd Pendu's most recent Chaos Majik LP Telestic Madness Majikal Musick released on Prison Tatt records. As a visual artist Jesse has done illustration work for Vice Magazine, Pendu Sound Recordings and the Pendu/Gelaznik Tarot Deck. In 2012 Jesse lived in the woods for the month of August and constructed a site specific installation titled Self Charged Sites at the Outpost residency program in Otis MA. Jesse Gelaznik currently lives and works in Brooklyn NY.
Artist's Statement
I have let myself become a transmitter of dreams through concentration and visualization. My projects revolve around a conjured image in my imagination which inspires me to work. Once I have begun working I incorporate my influences. I am constantly inspired by light and shadow, daily observations, movement, chaos, color and sound. My most recent projects involve building and painting a dome in the forest and designing and constructing mixed media installations and performances. With my last piece titled A Guest in the Cavern I hand drew installation plans and composed 9 tone poems for electronics and strings and set them to text written by a friend and collaborator Natalee Cayton. The pyramid installation was a collaboration with Rachel Blackwell who performed inside the pyramid and provided projections. My present work seeks to pair musical compositions for cello and viola & electronics with sculptural installations.
